gongju

Gongju, a city steeped in history, was once the capital of the ancient Baekje Kingdom from AD 475 to 538. This period was marked by significant threats from the neighboring Goguryeo kingdom, prompting Baekje to relocate its capital to Gongju, known then as Ungjin. Today, Gongju is renowned for its cultural heritage sites, including the Tomb of King Muryeong and the Gongsanseong Fortress, which offer a glimpse into the city's storied past. Despite modern developments, Gongju retains its historical significance, embodying the rich tapestry of South Korea's history.
