Nikkō Tōshō-gū is a stunning example of Shinto architecture and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, located in the serene setting of Nikkō, Tochigi Prefecture, Japan. Established in 1617, this shrine is dedicated to Tokugawa Ieyasu, the founder of the Tokugawa shogunate. It is renowned for its elaborate structures, including several National Treasures of Japan and Important Cultural Properties. The shrine complex is a historical treasure trove, featuring the famous Yōmeimon Gate and among its many intricate carvings, the famous "see no evil, speak no evil, and hear no evil" monkeys, as well as the "sleeping cat" and the "Crying Dragon" painting, which produces a unique acoustic effect.
