tochoji temple

Tōchō-ji is a significant Shingon Buddhist temple in Hakata, Fukuoka, Japan, known for its rich history and cultural importance. Founded in 806 by Kūkai, it is the oldest Shingon temple in Kyushu. The temple is renowned for housing a national treasure, the senju kannon, and a large seated Buddha statue, which is the third largest in Japan. Visitors are also drawn to the Rokkaku-dō, a hexagonal building with revolving bookshelves for sutras and sculptures, illustrating the temple's dedication to preserving and sharing Buddhist teachings.
