three great gardens of japan
The Three Great Gardens of Japan (日本三名園, Nihon Sanmeien), also known as the three most celebrated gardens in Japan, are Kenroku-en in Kanazawa, Koraku-en in Okayama, and Kairaku-en in Mito. This concept of grouping gardens in threes is not unique and can be seen elsewhere. For instance, Emperor Go-Mizunoo, who abdicated in 1629, created three gardens at the Shugakuin Imperial Villa, each situated at different elevations on the northeastern fringes of Kyoto.
