sonohyan utaki
Sonohyan-utaki is a sacred grove (utaki) of the indigenous Ryukyuan religion, featuring a rich array of trees and plants. Situated within the precincts of Shuri Castle in Naha, Okinawa, it stands just a short walk from the Shureimon castle gate. The utaki, particularly its stone gate, forms part of the collective UNESCO World Heritage Site known as the Gusuku Sites and Related Properties of the Kingdom of Ryukyu and has been recognized as an Important Cultural Property by the government of Japan.
