shuri castle

Shuri Castle, also known as Shurijo, is a Ryukyuan gusuku located in Shuri, Okinawa. It served as the palace of the Ryukyu Kingdom from 1429 to 1879, after which it fell into a state of neglect. In 1945, the castle was nearly destroyed during the Battle of Okinawa. On the morning of October 31, 2019, the principal courtyard structures of the castle were once again devastated by fire.
