rommische bader

The Roman Baths in Sanssouci Park, Potsdam, are a testament to King Frederick William IV's fascination with Italian culture and architecture. Created between 1829 and 1840, this architectural ensemble blends classical Roman and antique Italian styles, embodying the king's longing for Italy, or "Italiensehnsucht." Although named 'Roman Baths,' they were never used for bathing; instead, they were part of a romantic vision that transformed the landscape into an Italianate paradise, complete with a gardener's house, a tea pavilion, and other structures linked by pergolas and arcades.
