romanesque road
The Romanesque Road, or Straße der Romanik, is a picturesque journey through Saxony-Anhalt's rich medieval history. This route forms a figure-eight around the state, connecting 88 significant Romanesque sites, including churches, monasteries, and castles dating from 950 to 1250 AD. It's a cultural adventure that offers a glimpse into the emergence of Christianity in the region, with Magdeburg at its heart, showcasing the angular shapes and round arches characteristic of Romanesque architecture. The road is part of the Transromanica network, recognized as a major European Cultural Route since 2006.
