petit trianon
The Petit Trianon, a jewel of Neoclassical architecture, stands on the grounds of the Palace of Versailles. Built between 1762 and 1768, it was a private retreat for King Louis XV and later, a beloved sanctuary for Marie Antoinette. The château's design, a perfect cube with a flat roof and a balustrade, was the work of Ange-Jacques Gabriel, a leading architect of the time. Its history is rich, having served various roles from a private escape to a museum dedicated to Marie Antoinette, reflecting the changing tides of French history.
