parliament hill

Parliament Hill, often referred to as "The Hill," is not only the seat of Canada's federal government but also a symbolic gathering place for citizens and visitors alike. It's home to the iconic Gothic Revival-style buildings that stand on a 170-foot bluff, offering a panoramic view of the Ottawa River. The site is steeped in history, with its development as a governmental precinct beginning in 1859 after Queen Victoria chose Ottawa as the capital of the Province of Canada. Today, it attracts approximately three million visitors annually, who come to explore its open grounds, enjoy guided tours, and learn about the Canadian political system.
