old city of acre
Acre, known for its historic walled port-city, boasts a continuous settlement history from the Phoenician period. The city's current form dates back to the Ottoman 18th and 19th centuries, featuring a fortified town layout with citadels, mosques, khans, and baths. Remarkably, the remains of the Crusader town, which served as the capital of the medieval Crusader kingdom of Jerusalem from 1104 to 1291, are almost entirely intact, both above and below the modern street level, offering a unique glimpse into the past.
