nijo castle

Nijo Castle, located in Kyoto, Japan, is a splendid example of the country's rich feudal history. Built in 1603 as the residence of Tokugawa Ieyasu, the first shogun of the Edo Period, it was later expanded by his grandson Iemitsu. The castle is renowned for its beautiful architecture, including the Ninomaru Palace with its nightingale floors designed to chirp when walked upon, serving as a security measure. Surrounded by stunning gardens and moats, Nijo Castle was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1994, reflecting its historical and cultural significance.
