neonian baptistery

The Baptistery of Neon, located in Ravenna, is a remarkable example of early Christian architecture and art. As the oldest monument in the city, it stands on the site of a former Roman bath. This octagonal brick structure, known for its stunning mosaics, was constructed at the end of the 5th century and is distinguished by its depiction of the baptism of Jesus by John the Baptist. It's part of a group of eight structures in Ravenna that are collectively designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, celebrated for retaining the fluidity in representation of the human figure derived from Greco-Roman art.
