Naha, the capital city of Okinawa Prefecture, is situated in a group of tropical islands to the south of mainland Japan. It is famed for Shuri Castle, the reconstructed royal residence of the Ryukyu Kingdom that prospered from the 15th to the 19th century and is the birthplace of the martial art of karate.
