mausoleum of galla placidia

The Mausoleum of Galla Placidia, renowned for its rich mosaics and architectural significance, is a testament to the grandeur of the Late Antique period. Constructed in Ravenna, Italy, this remarkable structure is part of the Early Christian Monuments of Ravenna, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Despite its name, it was not the final resting place of the Roman Empress Galla Placidia. The mausoleum's breathtaking mosaics, including the starry sky and representations of the Good Shepherd, are considered some of the finest examples of this art form in Europe.
