leshan giant buddha

The Leshan Giant Buddha is a monumental statue carved into the cliffs of Lingyun Mountain in Sichuan Province, China, overlooking the confluence of three rivers. Standing at 71 meters tall, it is the largest stone Buddha in the world and was constructed between 713 and 803 during the Tang Dynasty. This awe-inspiring figure was created with the hope of calming the turbulent waters that threatened passing ships. Recognized for its cultural and historical significance, the Leshan Giant Buddha was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996, alongside the Mount Emei Scenic Area.
