jewish quarter
The Jewish Quarter, known in Hebrew as הרובע היהודי, is a key part of the rich tapestry that makes up Jerusalem's Old City. This area, steeped in millennia of history, stretches from the Zion Gate in the south to the Street of the Chain in the north and is bordered by the Armenian Quarter on the west and extends to the Western Wall and the Temple Mount in the east. It has been the site of extensive archaeological excavations, revealing layers of history from the First and Second Temple periods, including significant structures like the Broad Wall and the Israelite Tower. Today, the Jewish Quarter is not only a window into the past but also a vibrant neighborhood, home to around 3,000 residents and numerous yeshivas and synagogues, including the rebuilt Hurva Synagogue.
