intramuros

Intramuros, known as the historic walled area within Manila, Philippines, stands as a testament to the country's rich colonial history. Founded by Spanish conquistador Miguel López de Legazpi in 1571, this 0.67-square-kilometer district was the political and military base of Spain in Asia. Despite the destruction during World War II, Intramuros has been restored and continues to be a hub of cultural heritage, with landmarks like Fort Santiago and San Agustin Church inviting visitors to step back in time.
