großiedlung siemensstadt

The Siemensstadt Settlement, also known as Großsiedlung Siemensstadt or Ring Settlement, is a notable example of modernist architecture and a symbol of progressive urban planning. Constructed between 1929 and 1931 under the master plan of architect Hans Scharoun, it is part of the six Modernist Housing Estates in Berlin recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. This residential community was designed to provide worker housing for Siemens' nearby electrical factory and represents a significant shift in urban design, moving away from low-rise, garden city-style projects to denser multi-story apartment blocks.
