elephanta caves
The Elephanta Caves are a magnificent network of sculpted caves located on Elephanta Island, near Mumbai. This UNESCO World Heritage Site features rock-cut temples dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva, showcasing a blend of Hindu and Buddhist art and iconography. The caves, believed to date back to between the 5th and 9th centuries, are hewn from solid basalt rock and are renowned for their stunning and intricate carvings, including the famous Trimurti sculpture. Despite some damage over the centuries, the Elephanta Caves remain a testament to the artistic and spiritual achievements of ancient Indian culture.
