east mebon
The East Mebon is a remarkable 10th-century temple located in the heart of Angkor, Cambodia. Constructed during the reign of King Rajendravarman, it was originally set on an artificial island at the center of the now-dry East Baray reservoir. Dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva, the temple is noted for its architectural significance and orientation, aligning with other key structures like Pre Rup and Phimeanakas. The East Mebon features two enclosing walls, three tiers, and a quintet of towers that symbolize the peaks of Mount Meru, a sacred mountain in Hindu mythology.
