cheonmachong
Cheonmachong, or the "Heavenly Horse Tomb," is indeed a remarkable part of South Korea's rich heritage. Located in Gyeongju, the ancient capital of the Silla Kingdom, this tumulus is believed to date back to the 5th or 6th century CE. The tomb is named after an exquisite painting of a celestial horse found on a birch bark saddle flap within the tomb, which reflects the importance of horses in Silla culture. The site, which has yielded over 11,500 artifacts including a magnificent gold crown, offers a unique glimpse into the funerary practices and artistic achievements of the Silla period.
