caves and ice age art
The Swabian Jura in southern Germany is renowned for its six caves, which served as shelters for Ice Age humans between 33,000 and 43,000 years ago. These caves are significant for containing the world's oldest known figurative art and musical instruments, reflecting the early development of human creativity. The artifacts found within, including the famous Venus of Hohle Fels and the Lion Man sculpture, offer invaluable insights into the lives of our prehistoric ancestors. Recognized for their historical importance, these caves were designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2017.
