cathedral of san rufino

The Assisi Cathedral, also known as the Cathedral of San Rufino, is a significant historical and religious structure in Assisi, Italy. It stands as a fine example of Umbrian Romanesque architecture and has been a key site in the history of the Franciscan order. The cathedral is the third church built on the same site to house the remains of St. Rufinus, who was martyred in the 3rd century. It was here that Saint Francis of Assisi was baptized, and it was within these walls that Saint Clare of Assisi found her calling after hearing Francis preach.
