candi sewu

Sewu Temple, also known as Candi Sewu, is a remarkable eighth-century Mahayana Buddhist temple located near Prambanan in Central Java, Indonesia. This temple complex is the second largest Buddhist temple in Indonesia, after Borobudur, and predates the nearby Prambanan Hindu temples. It is believed to have been originally named Manjusrigrha, or 'The House of Manjusri', after the Bodhisattva of wisdom. The temple served as a significant spiritual center for the kingdom, with its mandala layout symbolizing the Buddhist cosmology. Sewu Temple's rich history and architectural grandeur continue to draw visitors and scholars from around the world.
