Brunei, officially known as Brunei Darussalam, is a small yet prosperous country located on the northern coast of the island of Borneo in Southeast Asia. It is unique in that it is completely surrounded by the Malaysian state of Sarawak and is divided into two separate parts by the Sarawak district of Limbang. Brunei boasts a rich history, having been a British protectorate before gaining full independence in 1984. Today, it is known for its blend of beautiful mosques, pristine rainforests, and a high standard of living, thanks to its abundant oil and gas reserves.
