blue mosque

The Sultan Ahmed Mosque, commonly referred to as the Blue Mosque, stands as a magnificent example of classical Ottoman architecture and Islamic art. Constructed between 1609 and 1617 during the reign of Ahmed I, it remains an active place of worship while also attracting numerous visitors with its historical and artistic significance. The mosque's design features a central dome flanked by four semi-domes and six minarets, a unique aspect that adds to its grandeur. Inside, the walls are adorned with over 20,000 handmade Iznik tiles, with intricate blue paintwork that gives the mosque its nickname.
