Ahu Akahanga, located on Easter Island's south coast, is a significant archaeological site believed to be the burial place of Hotu Matu’a, the island’s first king. This unrestored ceremonial platform, stretching 18 meters, features 13 fallen moai—some face-up, others face-down—offering a glimpse into the island’s period of decline. Scattered pukao (red volcanic headpieces) and nearby village remnants, including boat-shaped house foundations and stone ovens, highlight ancient Rapanui life. Positioned near the sea, it reflects both historical importance and the island’s cultural landscape.
