adalaj stepwell
The Adalaj Stepwell, a marvel of Indo-Islamic architecture and engineering, is located in the town of Adalaj, close to Gandhinagar in Gujarat. Constructed in 1498, this five-story deep well was built in the memory of Rana Veer Singh by his wife, Queen Rudabai. It served as a cultural and utilitarian space, providing water for drinking, washing, and bathing, especially during the arid times of the year. The stepwell is not only a testament to the brilliant craftsmanship of the time but also a reflection of the region's social and spiritual ethos, having been a site for colorful festivals and sacred rituals.
