catalan romanesque churches of the vall de boí
The Churches of the Vall de Boí, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, are an exquisite collection of nine Early Romanesque churches located in the Catalan region of Alta Ribagorça. These architectural marvels, built between the 11th and 12th centuries, showcase the Lombard Romanesque style, characterized by functional design, expert stonework, and distinctive external decorations of rounded arcading and pilaster strips. Not only do they reflect the religious and social dynamics of medieval society, but they also house significant art, including Romanesque murals and sculptures, some of which are now preserved at the National Museum of Catalan Art.
